CLOTH NAPPIES
VS DISPOSABLES

Here is a description of a paragraph but this paragraph can't be too long or it's way too much.

DOES IT REALLY MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE? THE TRUTH IS STAGGERING

THE UGLY TRUTH

The impact of disposable nappies on our environment and on our health is frightening. Here is some raw, real and disturbing facts on the production and use of disposable nappies. We can't ignore this, can you?

OVER 2 BILLION NAPPIES TO LANDFILL

Australians use around 5.6 million nappies per day: This means that over 2 billion used nappies go into landfill sites in Australia each year.

HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF DAMAGE

EVERY disposable nappy and wipe ever produced is STILL in existence today. It is estimated that they will take over 400 years to break down (not decompose). That's A LOT of plastic!

HIGHLY TOXIC CHEMICALS

The World Health Organisation warns that highly toxic chemicals found in disposables are linked to long-term health conditions affecting the immune system, causing reproductive & respiratory issues and allergic reactions.

1.9 MILLION+ LITRES OF WATER WASTED

It takes approximately 495,950 litres of water to manufacture enough disposables for just THREE MONTHS! Compared to only 19,962 litres of water for THREE YEARS of cloth nappy washing.

COSTING AUSSIE FAMILIES $3,000+

Disposables will cost you $3000 plus! Per child! That’s just for nappies, excluding wipes, swim nappies and other disposable accessories!

1,100+ TREES LOPPED PER MINUTE

Around 70% of the paper that is needed to produce disposable nappies comes from trees. It takes up to 4.5 trees to produce enough disposables for ONE baby for only ONE year. This waste is highly unsustainable.

WE CAN HELP YOU CHOOSE TO RE-USE

The facts are out and the jurys in. Disposable nappies are catastrophic to our planet and our health. Enter cloth nappies, a sustainable and re-usable (and downright stylish) alternative!

But don't cloth nappies leak? Aren't they really expensive? Don't they stink? How on earth do you clean them?

Let us bust some of these myths and show you just how cheap and easy it is to use cloth nappies.

MYTH #1 - STINK FACTOR

It is widely thought that poo smells and unfortunately we can't bust that myth. Poo stinks! But there is absolutely no merit to the claim that poo smells more in re-usable nappies. When you take a cloth nappy off and discover a number two, you simply roll it off into the toilet and flush it away! Rinse before adding to your drypail and your nappy sits pretty (and not smelly) until wash day. Disposable nappies keep a hold of number two and if you don't store them airtight until bin day, you're going to have a stinky situation on your hands!

MYTH #2 - CLOTH NAPPIES LEAK

Never a truer word spoken, if it was 1921! But seriously, we've been lucky enough to be able to invest in industry leading cloth nappy design making Earthside Eco Bums range of cloth nappies fully contained! All you need is the right information on choosing and using your cloth nappies - you've come to the right place for that!

MYTH #3 - CLOTH NAPPIES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE

Quite the opposite. In fact, you can save $2,500+ per child if you choose to use cloth nappies. Disposable nappies are extremely expensive, with each child using approximately 3,000 nappies from birth to toilet training. A full time stash of cloth nappies (25-30) can be used for your first, second, third child and more! Saving you thousands of Dollars and helping you keep even more nappies out of landfill.

MYTH #4 - THEY ARE SO GROSS TO CLEAN

This is the biggest one, the question we get over email, on the phone, over zoom, at our workshops and on our webinars. We promise you, we have the cleaning process so figured out that you'll be wondering how you let this myth get to you in the first place! We provide a free digital care guide with all cloth nappy purchases, but if you're not convinced and need to check it out a little more - head on over to our Cleaning Cloth Nappies page to view some free online resources that explain cleaning a bit more in detail.
