How to Prevent Leaks with Cloth Diapers: Practical Tips

Leaks? Don’t worry

It happens to the best of us! Whether you're new to cloth or just need a little troubleshooting, here are some simple tips to keep your baby (and your floors!) dry.

Most leaks come down to:

  • Poor fit around the legs or waist

  • Not enough absorption for your baby's needs

  • Build-up or repelling due to incorrect washing

Your baby's age and habits matter!

  • Newborns: Light wetters? Remember less is best, let the inserts work for you and don't overpack!
  • Older babies or heavy wetters: Adding a booster may help here but remember: If the insert is only wet on parts its a fit issue, if its completely saturated, its an absorbency issue!

  • Double up inserts (but don’t overstuff!)

  • Use a stay-dry liner to keep baby comfortable

  • Consider a fitted nappy + wool cover combo for heavy night wetters

Make sure the nappy is snug but not too tight. You should be able to slide a finger around the legs and waist without gaping.
